This Swedish film by Jan Troell is not available to me on DVD. However, I have found it on Youtube with no subtitles. After watching a bit, I realized that with no English to aid me it was going to be hard to really write something of value about this film. If I get real heartfelt requests to see what I can experience with a film that I don’t understand a word of, I am willing to give it a go. But I honestly felt that this language barrier would seriously hinder my comprehension of the film, and I would rather not go blindly into Troell’s work and risk turning it into something it is not.

The Best Picture Project 
Have been looking for this as well together with the sequel “The New Land” which follows the family in America. Both films were on TV a long time ago and I’ve requested them on TCM. There doesn’t seem to be much demand for them, however. If you can, see both films (same cast and director). They were released about one year apart and were both nominated for various awards.
