Happy November! Yes, I realize this is now technically late November, but let me tell you all the exciting things that have been happening lately.
First off, November has, for three years now, been my big break from writing about movies and venturing into dangerous territory. I participate in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo if you talk about it enough) and enjoy the rush of writing 50,000 words of fiction in just 30 days. Though I’m a bit behind (the blue widget at the bottom shows how far I’ve gotten), I’ll catch up. I just have to make time between all the sleeping I want to do and the constant scavenging for food…
Which brings me to my big announcement: I’m pregnant! Yes, I am growing brand new human inside me as we speak, and it is crazy and amazing. It’s one of those moments where I realize in my mind, I have no clue what I’m doing, yet my body just knows how to build a person from two haphazard cells. Insane. Meanwhile, I’ll just sit back, avoid certain things (I miss beer and sushi!) and keep calm while all this goes on.
As I am about half way through this glorious time of life and well on my way to parenthood, I must ask if anyone has any suggestions for movies I should see before the baby arrives? I would like to avoid anything really negative, like Rosemary’s Baby, Sophie’s Choice or Alien (I imagine birth will be like the chest-burster scene.) But any enjoyable movies about pregnancy, babies, motherhood or fatherhood (I can give my husband some required watching) would be much appreciated.
I’ll be back in December with more movies and hopefully, getting prepared (and pumped) for Oscar season. I’ve already seen Gravity and 12 Years a Slave, let’s hope writing their reviews in advance doesn’t jinx their Oscar chances.
Congrats on the baby! Hope the dad is as excited as you!
Thank you! He’s very excited. 🙂
Congratulations on the pregnancy!!! I wish you and your husband all the best. As a father of a soon to be 3-year old, I can tell you that you have a lot of fun to come!
Thank you so much! We’re looking forward to all the fun times ahead.
Congratulations! I don’t know nothing about birthing no babies, and my movie watching doesn’t tend much to family-type stories, but here’s my all-time favorite song about having kids (and probably an inspiration when two of my characters suddenly decided to become parents): http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EsSlOGzPM90
I’m sure I’ll be using that same Gone With The Wind quote as time draws closer to birthing this baby. I love this song! Thanks so much for sharing.
I thought at first that I was a bit off-topic, since this is a movie blog and you asked for movies (and I gave you a song instead), but then I remembered the fact that the son for whom David Bowie wrote that song is now an acclaimed movie director: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duncan Jones 🙂
Congrats!!
Thanks. 🙂
I suggest watching Parenthood, one of my all time favorites and something I watched while my wife was pregnant. Father of the Bride Part II was also a favorite at the time. I don’t know, maybe it’s a Steve Martin thing. lol
Thank you for the suggestions, I could use more Steve Martin about now.
Wooo!!! Congrats on launching into motherhood! All the best, it’s a tough journey at times, but so worth it.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on 12 Years A Slave. I am hearing plenty of good things about it!!
Thank you Rodney! Keep a look out for my review during Oscar season.
Congrats for your future Baby! Do you know when’s your due date?
Not realted to this but also a good news, I’ve nominated you for a Sunshine Blog Award: http://cinephiliaque.blogspot.ca/2013/11/a-sun-that-never-setsalmost.html
Thank you, baby should arrive in early April. And thank you for the Sunshine Award!
